Within a very short distance of the United States Capitol, our country has built inspiring monuments that are made of marble and steel, copper and black granite in order to commemorate the price former American warriors paid for freedom.
From the World War II Memorial to the Memorial Wall of Vietnam Veterans, the Korean War Veterans Memorial and even the Lincoln Memorial, which commemorates the President who led our nation though the Civil War -- we salute our guardians of liberty.
Please join us on Veterans Day in remembering those who served our country honorably in times of peace and of war, at home and on foreign battlefields, on land and at sea. For it is these veterans on whose shoulders stand today's soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.
And let us not forget those who, at this very moment, are standing guard in protection of freedom and the American way of life. Their sacrifices, and those of their families while they serve, act as constant reminders to all Americans that freedom is not free.
Visit the Dept. of Defense's "America Supports You" military web site and send them a message of thanks!
God Bless America
